Meet the Management Committee of Sparsholt Cricket Club

Committee Members

  • Small
    Andy Worth

Current Club Chairman from 2017 and beyond, having captained the first team from 2013 to 2016. Of Lancastrian heritage playing cricket in the Palace Shield and then Central Lancashire League, before moving to Winchester KS in the mid 90's joining Sparsholt 10 years ago. Supports Morecambe FC. Has a habit of quoting lyrics from folk punk bands no one else has heard of. Tries to bridge the gap between the old traditionalists and the modern age of cricket.

  • Small
    Tony Edwards
    Vice-Chairman & General Secretary

Tony, Vice-Chairman, General Secretary and member of the Edwards family of Sparsholt.

Big hitting batsman (when he can actually hit the ball), Webmaster, Fixtures.... or any other job role that takes his fancy.

Usually seen happily smiling away at committee meetings whilst taking the minutes.

Third generation of the Edwards family to sit on the committee.

Youngest Life Vice President in Club History.

  • Small
    Bob Selley

Bob joined the club in 1981 and was first team 'keeper for many years, including one season when the firsts went unbeaten . As his faculties declined he slid down the teams but up the batting order. Scored 118 in a league record opening stand of 245 vs. Lyndhurst with Pete Green. Was fortunate to captain the strongest 2nd XI in the club's history, winning two promotions in three years. Captained the 3rds for a couple of years. His eyesight and reactions eventually declined to the extent that there was only one sensible route - umpiring, which turned out to be more taxing and less enjoyable than playing.

Bob is the club treasurer and unofficial photographer. He still has the photos from the infamous Cambridge club tour. His proudest achievement is falling asleep whilst remaining standing one lunchtime on the Devon tour.

  • David Banks
    David Banks

Nickname Banksy joined Sparsholt in 2016 having been around the Southern League for over two decades. Has taken on the groundsman role for 2017 & beyond. A hard hitting batsman and medium pace bowler who can keep wicket.

Team management

  • Small
    Jeremy Frith
    First XI Captain

An old boy of the club returned in 2016 season following a stint in Guernsey. Now first team captain coach and motivator. Left arm spin bowler and batsman and occasional fireman at his own barbecues.

  • Jamie Skeoch
    Jamie Skeoch
    Second XI Captain

Another Lancastrian from Preston Jamie joined Sparsholt in 2016. A swashbuckling batsman with his own stylish Preston slog talks almost as much rubbish as the chairman. An ex footballer who runs around like billy whizz from the beano (an old comic for those who haven't heard of the beano).

Jamie is so important he expects other people to update his member registration for him.

  • Small
    Martin Patterson
    Sunday XI Captain

A tedious batsman and clumsy stand-in 'keeper who should have retired years ago.
