Midweek Team Captain's Message

Well I have to say that my first evening league season as Skipper has been a huge success and I have enjoyed it very much. But it has only been so due to the players I have had the pleasure of captaining this year. Players like Daniel Payne, who has scored literally a countless number of runs, and Dan Pickering (vice-Captain) for his absolutely outstanding bowling has meant Sparsholt have won all but two of their games and enjoyed a Tichborne cup run that as of writing this has not finished as we have made it to the final.

I would like to point out a few players, apart from the previously mentioned, and urge no one to be upset if not mentioned as I am incredibly proud of every one of you who turned out for me this year.

Alex 'Keith' Whiting

Has had a hugely successful season and had started Graeme Swann like 'nack' of taking a wicket in not only his first over but with his first ball in fact. His batting has also improved to the extent that he has mastered all shots including the reverse sweep into his teeth. (Sorry Alex but was too good not to mention)

Tom 'Brooky' Brook

Has always strived to get me out of trouble when failing to grab eleven players and his useful advice has been greatly received if not always adhered to. His bowling has also allowed us to squeeze the oppo and his always positive batting ensure his all-rounder tag is greatly intact.

Has had some great appearances for me this year including a one hundred plus partnership with his brother Dave. But it has been his dedication and willingness to try his hardest at whatever was asked of him this year that has really impressed me.

Nick 'Little Mike' Doubell

A great player of the future who impressed me very much from his only turn out for me. Finished not out when he batted and took 3 wickets in an excellent spell.
